    After you register for CANON iMAGE GATEWAY*, you will be able to access various Web services**. You will be able to upload movies and photos to online albums, share the albums on Twitter, upload movies to Facebook and YouTube, send links to your online albums by e-mail to friends and family, and more! To use this function, you will need an access point connected to the Internet.
    * Availability differs from area to area.
    ** "Web services" is used in this text to refer to various Internet services supported by CANON iMAGE GATEWAY.

    CANON iMAGE GATEWAY is a site that provides various photo-related services for owners of qualified Canon products. After you complete the free registration online, you can use the Web services, create online photo albums, and more.

    NOTE
    General requirements
    1. Computer with the supplied software ImageBrowser EX and CameraWindow correctly installed. 
    - For details on installing the software, refer to the camcorder's User's Manual (PDF).
    2. Completed free registration online for CANON iMAGE GATEWAY.
     - An Internet connection is required
    3. Account settings for YouTube, Facebook and Twitter (depending on the services you plan to use). 
    - Required for use of Web Services.

    CAUTION
    • Using an unprotected Wi-Fi network can expose your files and data to monitoring by unauthorized third parties. Be aware of the risks involved.
    • Countries and Regions Permitting WLAN (Wireless LAN) Use
    -Use of WLAN is restricted in some countries and regions, and illegal use may be punishable under national or local regulations. To avoid violating WLAN regulations, visit the Canon website to check where use is allowed.
    Note that Canon cannot be held liable for any problems arising from WLAN use in other countries and regions.

    Setting the Desired Web Services in the Camcorder
    Using the supplied software CameraWindow, log in to CANON
    iMAGE GATEWAY and set the Web services you want to use.
    Refer to 'CameraWindow User Guide' for details on using the
    software.

    1. Camcorder: Press <> to set the camcorder to <Playback> mode.



    2. Camcorder: press [ ] to open the [Movie Playback] index screen for MP4 movies or the [Photo Playback] screen



    3. Connect the camcorder to the computer using the supplied USB cable.

    4. Computer: Start CameraWindow.
    • Windows:
    - If the AutoPlay dialog box appears, click Downloads Images From Canon Camera to open the main screen.
    • Mac OS:
    - CameraWindow will automatically start and the main screen will appear.

    5. Computer: Log in to CANON iMAGE GATEWAY
    5-1. Click Camera Settings > Set Up Web Services.
    • The log in screen will appear.



    5-2. Computer: Enter your account information > click Login.
    • After you log in, the camera settings screen will appear.



    6. Computer: Set the Web Service information.
    6-1. Click Edit Web Services > Desired Web service > Edit



    6-2. Computer: Select the Web service to set in the camcorder and then click Edit.
    *Facebook has been selected in the example image below.



    6-3. Follow the onscreen instructions and enter your account information for the selected Web service, and then click [Set].
    *For Facebook: You must log in to Facebook and set access permission to make it connectable.



    6-4. Computer: Click [Finish] to exit CameraWindow.
    • The camera setting screen appears.



    Available Web services*
    Web service What you can do
    CANON iMAGE GATEWAY Upload MP4 movies and photos to your online photo albums.
    Facebook You can upload movies directly to Facebook.
    Twitter Share recordings on Twitter. You can post a link to your online photo album on your Twitter feed.
    YouTube You can upload movies directly to YouTube.
    E-mail notification You can send e-mail notifications with a link to your online photo album. You can even set up to 20 e-mail addresses.

    * The available Web services may be updated. For details, refer to the help module of CANON iMAGE GATEWAY.

    7. Register the Web Service you want to use in the Camcorder.
    7-1. Computer: Select the Web service to set in the camcorder and then click .
    • The selected Web services will appear in the left camera panel.
    • Repeat to select multiple Web services.
    • You can click and to change the order in which the Web services appear in the camcorder.



    7-2. Computer: Click [Menu].
    • The selected Web services will be set in the camcorder and the CameraWindow menu screen will appear.



    8. Computer: Exit CameraWindow
    • Then, safely end the connection between the camcorder and computer.
    CAUTION
    Before you disconnect the camcorder from the computer, be sure to safely end the connection to the camcorder to avoid damage to your files.

    NOTE
    • If the date set in the camcorder is not correct, the camcorder cannot connect to CANON iMAGE GATEWAY. Make sure the date is correct before trying to establish a connection.
    • When the number of set Web services reaches maximum, you cannot set any more. Delete unnecessary Web services and then set the desired Web service.
    • You cannot set multiple accounts for Web services other than e-mail.

    Sharing Your Recordings Using Web Services
    Conveniently share your recordings with family and friends using Web services. You can upload movies to YouTube and Facebook. Also, you can upload movies and photos to online albums on CANON iMAGE GATEWAY. Then, you can post links to those online albums on Twitter.

    1. Press the <> button to set the camcorder to <Playback> mode.

    2. Touch [ ].



    3. Drag your finger left/right to bring the [Wi-Fi] menu to the center, and then touch the icon to open it.



    4. Drag your finger up/down to bring the [To Web Service] menu to the center, and touch [OK].




    5. If the access point you are trying to connect ot has not been registered, [Save the access point] will be displayed.
    Click [OK].



    NOTE
    The camcorder can connect to a Wi-Fi network using a wireless router (access point) and even remember the settings for the 4 most recently used access points. When this is exceeded, the oldest setting will be replaced.

    7. General requirements
    • Correctly configured router that complies with the 802.11b/g/n protocol and is Wi-Fi certified (bears the logo shown on the right) and a home network.



    8. Touch the desired connection method.




    A. [WPS: Button] method

    If your wireless router is WPS-compatible, connecting the camcorder to it can be very easy. If you cannot successfully connect the camcorder using WPS, try using the C. [Search for Access Points] method.

    A1. Press and hold the WPS button on the wireless router.
    NOTE
    • Depending on the router, the amount of time required may differ.
    • Make sure the router’s WPS function is activated.

    A2. Within 2 minutes, touch [OK] on the camcorder’s screen.




    B. [WPS: PIN Code] method

    If your wireless router is WPS-compatible, connecting the camcorder to it can be very easy. If you cannot successfully connect the camcorder using WPS, try using theC. [Search for Access Points] method.

    B1. From a computer or similar device connected to the wireless router, use the Web browser to open the router’s WPS settings screen. After the 8-digit PIN code appears on the camcorder’s screen, enter it into your router’s WPS settings screen.



    B2. Within 2 minutes, touch [OK] on the camcorder’s screen.


    C. Touch [Search for Access Points]

    The camcorder will automatically detect access points in the vicinity. After you select the desired access point, you simply enter the password (encryption key) to connect the camcorder.

    C1. Note the access point’s network name (SSID) and encryption key.

    C2. When the detected access points appear, touch to go through the detected access points.



    C3. Touch the desired access point and then touch [OK].



    C4. Touch the field for the encryption key, and then enter the encryption key.



    REFERENCE
    Using the virtual keyboard
    When you need to enter text for various settings, touch the text field and a virtual keyboard will appear on the screen.
    : (Close the keyboard after setting the desired information)
    : Information entry field
    : Keyboard
    : / Switch between letters and numbers/special characters.
    : Space key
    : Delete the character to the cursor’s left (backspace).
    : / / Caps Lock. When the numerical keyboard is displayed, [#%?] switches between set 1 and set 2 of special characters.
    : Change the position of the cursor.
    : Cancel

    NOTE
    If the access point you selected did not have an [ ] icon, this step is not necessary.

    C5. Touch [OK].

    C6. Touch [OK].


    D. [Manual Setup] method

    Perform this procedure to manually configure the wireless connection settings. This may be necessary, for example, if your wireless router’s network name (SSID) cannot be detected due to the stealth function being enabled. Manual setup is for advanced users of Wi-Fi networks.

    D1. Touch the field for SSID, and then enter the SSID.



    D2. Touch [Next].



    D3. Touch the [authentication/encryption method] area.



    D4. In the authentication/encryption method area, touch [OPEN NONE] and then touch the desired method.


    NOTE
    If you selected [OPEN WEP], the WEP index is 1.

    D5. Touch the field for encryption key, and then enter the encryption key.



    D6. Touch [Next].

    D7. Touch [Automatic] or [Manual] to select how to obtain the IP address.



    D8. Touch the [IP address] area.



    D9. Touch to change the value for the [IP address], and then touch [OK].



    D10. Repeat steps D8 and D9 to enter the [Subnet mask].



    D11. Touch [Next].

    D12. Repeat steps D8 and D9 to enter the [Default gateway].



    D13. Touch [Next].

    D14. Repeat steps D8 and D9 to enter the [DNS server].



    D15. Touch [Next].



    8. Select the desired Web service.
    8-1. Select one of the available Web services other than e-mail.

    9. Select the data to be uploaded.
    • Touch the type of upload (MP4 movie, Photo, or Video Snapshot).



    10. Touch [OK].

    11. Select a scene or photo.
    • Touch the scene or photo to upload.



    12. Touch the Web Service you want to connect with.
    • If you are uploading to YouTube, read the YouTube agreement carefully and touch [I Agree] if you agree.



    The upload will begin automatically.

    NOTE
    • To cancel upload:
    - You can touch [Stop] to cancel the wireless transfer while it is in progress.

    13. Touch [OK].

    Sending Links to Recordings by E-mail
    After you upload movies and photos to online albums on CANON iMAGE GATEWAY, you can send links to those albums by e-mail to family and friends. You can set up to 20 e-mail addresses in the camcorder.

    1. Make sure to register email addresses in CANON iMAGE GATEWAY in advance.

    2. Press <> to set the camcorder to <Playback> mode.



    3. Touch [ ].



    4. Drag your finger left/right to bring [Wi-Fi] to the center, and then touch the icon to open it.



    5. Drag your finger up/down to bring [To Web Service] to the center, and then touch [OK].



    6. To connect with Web Services, see the Wi-Fi connection method [Sharing Your Recordings Using Web Services].

    7. Touch .
    • A screen for selecting addresses will appear.



    8. Drag your finger up/down to select addresses and then touch [ ].



    9. Touch the scene or photo to upload.
    Refer to Step 9-14 in [Sharing Your Recordings Using Web Services] for information on the sending procedure.

    REFERENCE
    • Upload limits for movies:
    - The maximum length of movies you can upload is 15 minutes; the maximum file size is less than 2 GB.
    • For movies, you can upload one at a time; for photos, up to 10 at a time.
    • Depending on the access point’s (wireless router’s) settings and capabilities, it can take some time to upload files.
    • E-mail addresses must consist of single-byte characters. Only e-mail addresses with 16 or fewer characters before the @ mark can be set in the camcorder.

    NOTE
    • We recommend inserting a fully charged battery pack or using the optional CA-110 Compact Power Adapter when using Wi-Fi functions.
    • About the camcorder’s Wi-Fi standard
    - The camcorder’s Wi-Fi standard complies with the IEEE 802.11b/g/n protocol and operates in the 2.4 GHz band. As such, the maximum data transfer rate is 11 Mbps for IEEE 802.11b, 54 Mbps for IEEE 802.11g, and 150 Mbps for IEEE 802.11n. Note that these are theoretical values and actual data transfer rates may differ.
    • When using the camcorder’s Wi-Fi functions, do not cover the front left corner of the camcorder with your hand or other object. The Wi-Fi antenna is located there and covering it may interfere with wireless signals.
    • Do not remove the memory card during the wireless connection.
    • While using Wi-Fi functions, the camcorder’s automatic power off function will be disabled.
