    Printing Is Uneven
    <Cause 1>
    Paper is too moist or too dry.
    <Solution>

    <Cause 2>
    The toner cartridge has run out of toner, has deteriorated, or is damaged.
    <Solution>

    <Cause 3>
    The drum in any of the toner cartridges has deteriorated.

    The Back of the Printed Paper Has Smudge Marks
    <Cause>
    The size of the print data was larger than that of the loaded paper.

    Check if the size of the print data matches that of the loaded paper.

    Printed Pages Have White Specks

    Appropriate paper is not being used.

    <Cause 2>
    Damp paper is used.

    Colors are Uneven or Not Printed Smoothly
    <Cause>
    Data with large-size text, bold lines, and graphics with intense colors was printed
    <Solution>
    Perform the following in the printer driver.
    1. Display the [Finishing] tab.
    2. Click [Advanced Settings].
    3. Select an appropriate mode in [Special Smoothing Mode].
    Usually set [Special Smoothing Mode] to [Mode 1].
    If any of the following symptoms occur after specifying [Mode 1] for this setting, try
    specifying one of [Mode 2] to [Mode 6] and print again.
    • Intensely-colored graphics, large-sized text, and inside bold lines are not printed smoothly
    →Specify [Mode 2].
    • The following symptoms occur at the same time
    Intensely-colored graphics, large-sized text, and inside bold lines are not printed smoothly
    Less intensely-colored graphics, text, and the area around lines are not printed smoothly
    Text and lines on a colored background are not printed smoothly

    • Less intensely-colored graphics, text, and the area around lines are not printed smoothly

    • Colors are printed unevenly in bands in images (photo images), graphics, gradations, and shading patterns

    IMPORTANT
    When specifying a [Special Smoothing Mode]
    • If [Mode 2] or [Mode 4] is specified, colors may be printed unevenly in portions with less intense colors.
    • If [Mode 3] is specified, colors may be printed unevenly in portions with less intense colors or in shading patterns.
    • If [Mode 5] is specified, text and the area around lines and graphics may not be printed smoothly.
    • If [Mode 6] is set, colors may not be printed smoothly.

    Residual Images Appear on Non-printed Areas
    <Cause 1>
    Appropriate paper is not being used.
    <Solution>

    Paper with wider width was printed just after paper with narrower width (A5 size etc.) was printed continuously.
    <Solution>
    To lower the temperature of the fixing unit, wait for a while before printing again.

    <Cause 3>

    The Overall Print Result Is Dark
    <Cause 1>
    The setting for [Toner Density] is not appropriate.

    Perform the following procedure in the printer driver.
    1. Display the [Quality] tab.
    2. Click [Advanced Settings].
    3. Adjust [Toner Density].
    You can specify the same setting from the printer's control panel.

    <Cause 2>
    The printer is exposed to direct sunlight or strong light.

    Move the printer.

    The Toner Does Not Fix onto the Paper Well
    <Cause 1>

    <Cause 2>
    Appropriate paper is not being used.

    Perform the following procedure in the printer driver.
    • UFR II Printer Driver
    1. Display the [Quality] tab.
    2. Click [Advanced Settings].
    3. Set [Gray Compensation] to [On].

    <Cause 4>
    Toner on the parts dense in color does not fix onto the paper.

    Set [Special Image Mode] to [Level 1].
    If the problem still persists, set it to [Level 2].

    * Normally, set [Special Image Mode] to [Off]. Do not set [Level 1] or [Level 2] unless the problems described above occur.
    * If [Special Image Mode] is set to [Level 1] or [Level 2], the print density may be lower than if it was set to [Off].

    <Cause 5>
    A problem is occurring inside the printer.
    <Solution>
    If <Ennn-nnnn> appears in the display, follow the procedure in "The Message Indicator Is On" in the "User's Guide" from the Canon website(http://canon.com/oip-manual) to solve the problem.

    Smudge Marks of Spattering Toner Appear around the Text or Patterns
    <Cause>
    Appropriate paper is not being used.

    White Dust Is Attached to the Printed Transparencies
    <Cause>
    You print transparencies after printing paper other than transparency continuously.

    Wipe and remove the chipped paper with a soft cloth.
