Accessing the memory card. Do not remove the memory card. | You opened the card compartment cover while the camcorder was accessing the card or the camcorder started accessing the card as you opened the card compartment cover. Do not remove the card until this message disappears. |
Back up recordings regularly | This message may appear when you turn on the camcorder. In the event of a malfunction, recordings may be lost so back up your recordings regularly. |
Battery communication error. Does this battery display the Canon logo? | ●You attached a battery pack that is not recommended by Canon for use with this camcorder. ●If you are using a battery pack recommended by Canon for use with this camcorder, there may be a problem with the camcorder or battery pack. Consult a Canon Service Center. |
Battery pack is not compatible. Turning off the camcorder. | A battery pack not recommended by Canon for use with this camcorder was attached and the camcorder was turned on. The camcorder will automatically turn off in 4 seconds. |
Cannot play back | Clips cannot be played back from a 512 MB or smaller card. Use a recommended card. |
Cannot play back Check the memory card | There is a problem with the card. Save your recordings and initialize the card. If the problem persists, use a different card. |
Cannot play back Initialize only using the camcorder | The card in the camcorder was initialized using a computer. Initialize the card with this camcorder. |
Cannot record on this memory card | Clips cannot be recorded on a 512 MB or smaller card. Use a recommended card. |
Cannot trim the clip | MP4 clips that were recorded or copied using other devices cannot be trimmed. |
Charge the battery pack | Battery pack is depleted. Charge the battery pack. |
Check the memory card | ●Cannot access the card. Check the card and make sure it is inserted correctly. ●A card error occurred. The camcorder cannot record or display the image. Try removing and reinserting the card, or use a different card. ●You inserted a MultiMedia Card (MMC) into the camcorder. Use a compatible SD card. ●If after the message disappears, / appears in red, perform the following: Turn off the camcorder and remove and reinsert the card. If / turns back to green you can resume recording/playback. If the problem persists, save your clips and initialize the card. |
File name error | The folder and file numbers have reached their maximum value. Save your recordings, set MENU -> [Recording Setup] -> [MP4 Clip / Photo Numbering] to [Reset] and delete all the MP4 clips and photos or initialize the card. |
Initialize only using the camcorder | Initialize the card with this camcorder. |
May not be possible to record movies on this memory card | You may not be able to record clips on an SD card without a Speed Class rating or with a rating lower than recommended. To record clips with a resolution of 3840x2160 or using slow & fast motion recording, use an SD card rated UHS Speed Class U3. To record other clips, use an SD card rated SD Speed Class 6* or 10, or UHS Speed Class U1 or U3. * Only for MP4 clips. Do not use to record XF-AVC clips. |
Memory card cover is open | Close the card compartment cover after inserting a card. |
Memory card is full | The card is full. Delete some recordings to free some space or replace the card. |
Memory card is write-protected | The LOCK switch on the SD card is set to prevent accidental erasure. Change the position of the LOCK switch. |
No clips | There are no clips of the selected video format on the selected card. |
No memory card | Insert a compatible card into the camcorder. |
No photos | There are no photos on the selected card. |
Number of clips already at maximum | ●The card selected for recording already contains the maximum number of XF-AVC clips (999 clips). Replace the card or use the card in the other SD card slot. ●Cannot keep recording in dual recording mode because both cards reached the maximum number of XF-AVC clips. |
Operation canceled | ●Clips cannot be recorded because the control data is corrupted or an encoder error has occurred. (Control data cannot be recovered with the camcorder.) Turn the camcorder off and the on again. Remove the cards and reinsert them, or replace them with new cards. If the problem persists, consult a Canon Service Center. ●Corrupted file control information cannot be recovered. Cards or XF-AVC clips with corrupt file control information cannot be read by Canon XF Utility. |
Process terminated with error | ●The card compartment cover was opened or an error occurred during the initialization of a card. Initialize the card again. If the card still causes an error message, try replacing the card. |
Recording was stopped due to insufficient write speed of the memory card | ●The write speed of the SD card was too slow so recording was stopped. To record clips with a resolution of 3840x2160 or using slow & fast motion recording, use an SD card rated UHS Speed Class U3. To record other clips, use an SD card rated SD Speed Class 6* or 10, or UHS Speed Class U1 or U3. * Only for MP4 clips. Do not use to record XF-AVC clips. ●After repeatedly recording, deleting and editing clips (fragmented memory), it will take longer to write data on the SD card and recording may stop. Save your recordings and initialize the card. |
Some clips could not be deleted | Clips that were protected/edited with other devices and then transferred to a card connected to the computer cannot be deleted with this camcorder. |
Some clips require data recovery | The power may have been suddenly turned off or the card may have been removed while the camcorder was recording. As a result, one or more XF-AVC clips contain corrupted data. You can try to recover the clips. |
Task in progress. Do not disconnect the power source. | The camcorder is updating the card. Wait until the operation ends and do not disconnect the compact power adapter or remove the battery pack. |
This photo cannot be displayed | You may not be able to display photos taken with other devices or image files created or edited on a computer and then transferred to a card connected to the computer. |
Too many photos and MP4 movies. Disconnect the USB cable. | ●The card contains too many MP4 clips and photos. Disconnect the USB cable and delete recordings until the card contains a combined total of 2,500 (Windows)/1,000 (macOS) or fewer recordings and then use a card reader to transfer the recordings from the card. ●If a dialog box appeared on the computer screen, close it. Disconnect the USB cable, and restore the connection after a short while. |
Unable to recognize the data | The camcorder cannot recognize data that was recorded using a video configuration that is not supported (PAL or SECAM). |
Unable to recover data | ●Could not recover a corrupted file. Save your recordings and initialize the card. ●The camcorder may not be able to recover clips when there is not enough space on the card. Delete some clips to free some space. |
