    Issue

    Cause and Solution

Clean the inside of the printer.
If the inside of the printer is stained with excess ink, the printed paper may be smudged. Periodically clean the inside of the printer.

If the next page prints before the ink is dry, specify the Ink Drying Wait Time.
When printing data that takes time to dry (such as photos), the next sheet might be fed before the previous one has fully dried.
You can either remove each printed sheet from the Front Tray as soon as it is printed, or specify the Ink Drying Wait Time to pause after each sheet has printed.
    1. Ensure that the printer is turned on and open the printer properties dialog box.
    2. Click the Maintenance tab.
    3. Click Custom Settings to open the Custom Settings dialog box.
    4. Drag the Ink Drying Wait Time slide bar as desired, and then click Send.
    5. When the confirmation message is displayed, click OK.
    1. Ensure that the printer is turned on and open the Canon IJ Printer Utility.
    2. Select Custom Settings from the pop-up menu.
    3. Drag the Ink Drying Wait Time slide bar as desired, and then click Send.
    4. When the confirmation message is displayed, click OK.

You may need to clean the Paper Feed Rollers. Follow the procedure below.
Cleaning the Paper Feed Rollers consumes them, so perform this procedure only when necessary.
    NOTE
Ensure that the Inner Cover is closed.

    1. Ensure that the printer is turned on.
If the paper is loaded in the printer, remove the paper.
    2. Gently press the mark on the Front Tray to open the Front Tray, then pull out the Front Tray Extension.
    3. Hold down the RESUME/CANCEL button; when the POWER lamp flashes blue three times, release the button.
The Paper Feed Rollers rotate as they clean.
    4. Repeat step 3 twice.
    5. Load a stack of plain paper in portrait orientation in the Auto Sheet Feeder.
    6. Hold down the RESUME/CANCEL button; when the POWER lamp flashes blue three times, release the button.
The paper cleans the inside of the printer as it feeds through the printer.
    7. Repeat step 6 three times.
If repeating this procedure three times or more does not solve the problem, contact a Canon service representative.
