    Solution

      Time to Replace a Toner Cartridge:

      Toner cartridges are consumable products. When a toner cartridge is nearing the end of its life, a message will appear in the Printer Status Window. Follow the directions in the message.
      MessageWhen it is DisplayedContents and Remedies
      Cartridge(s) may need to be replaced soon. For details, check the [Consumables/Counters] dialog.When a toner cartridge or the drum cartridge needs to be replaced soon.a. You can continue to print.
      b. Check which cartridge(s) need to be replaced in the [Consumables/Counters] dialog box. If a toner cartridge needs to be replaced soon, have ready a new toner cartridge.
      c. It is recommended that you replace the toner cartridge before printing a large amount of data.
      Replacement of toner cartridge(s) is required (*).
      * Yellow, magenta, or cyan will appear in place of . (More than one color may appear.)
      One of the toner cartridges (other than black) has reached the end of its life.a. You can only perform black and white printing.
      b. If you want to print in color, replace the displayed color of toner cartridge with a new one.
      Toner Cartridge Replacement Required
      The lifetime of the toner cartridge(s) has been reached (*). Replace the toner cartridge after pressing the toner replacement key and opening the cover.
      *Black, yellow, magenta, or cyan will appear in place of . (More than one color may appear.)
      The black toner cartridge has reached the end of its life.a. The printer stops printing, and you cannot continue the job.
      b. Replace the indicated color of toner cartridge with a new one.

      IMPORTANT
      If the printed paper comes out faint or inconsistent even when a message does not appear, this may be due to a toner cartridge reaching the end of its life. Do not continue to use the toner cartridge and replace it with a new one when there is deterioration in print quality. When you are replacing a toner cartridge, be sure to use the toner cartridge designed for this printer. When you purchase a replacement toner cartridge, contact your local authorized Canon dealer.

      The [Consumables/Counters] Dialog Box:

      The [Consumables/Counters] dialog box in the Printer Status Window can be used to estimate the time when the toner cartridges will need to be replaced. The status of each of the color toner cartridges is displayed in the [Consumables/Counters] dialog box. For displaying the [Consumables/Counters] dialog box, see "How to display the [Consumables/Counters] dialog box" below.

      1. Display the Printer Status Window.

      2. Select [Consumables/Counters] from the [Options] menu.
      You can obtain the same result by clicking [] (Consumables/Counters) in the Printer Status Window.
      The [Consumables/Counters] dialog box is displayed.
      The meaning of the icons is as follows (The black toner cartridge is used as an example.).

      Continue using as normal.
      The toner cartridge is nearing the end of its life. Have a replacement toner cartridge ready.
      The toner cartridge has reached the end of its life. Replace the toner cartridge.
      The toner cartridge has not been installed.
