Solution
The machine allows you to receive faxes automatically or manually in several different ways.
See the following flowcharts to select the receive mode that you want to use.
See "Changing the Receive Mode" to change the Receive mode.
The default setting is <Auto>.
Auto mode
You can receive faxes automatically.
The receive mode varies depending on whether an external telephone is connected to the machine or not.
* You can change the number of times the incoming call rings. For more details on the incoming call rings, see the "e-Manual" (HTML manual) in the CD-ROM supplied with the machine.
Fax/Tel mode
You can receive faxes automatically (The telephone rings on an incoming call. For more details on the incoming call rings, see the "e-Manual" (HTML manual) in the CD-ROM supplied with the machine.)
You can answer incoming calls by picking up the handset.
*1 You can change the number of times for incoming ringing. For more details on the incoming call rings, see the "e-Manual" (HTML manual) in the CD-ROM supplied with the machine.
*2 To set a ring delay before the telephone starts ringing on an incoming call, go to the <Ring Start Time> option.
*3 To adjust the incoming call ring time, go to the <Incoming Ring Time> option.
*4 To specify how the machine behaves when you do not answer an incoming call, go to the <Action After Ring> option.
For more information on these options, see the "e-Manual" (HTML manual) in the CD-ROM supplied with the machine.
Answer mode
You can receive faxes automatically.
The telephone's built-in answer function records messages of unanswered calls.
*1 Set the answer function to answer after a few rings.
*2 The message is recorded on the answer function (You are advised to add approximately 4 seconds of silence at the beginning of the message or set the maximum recording time to 20 seconds).
Manual mode
Pick up the handset to answer calls or receive faxes when the machine is set to manual mode.
Set this mode when you expect to receive more incoming telephone calls than faxes or when you receive few faxes.
*1 When "Auto RX Switch" is set to <On> , the machine automatically starts receiving a fax after several rings.
For details on the Auto RX Switch, see the "e-Manual" (HTML manual) in the CD-ROM supplied with the machine.
*2 When "Remote RX" is set, you can dial the telephone to receive faxes remotely. For details on the Remote RX, see the "e-Manual" (HTML manual) in the CD-ROM supplied with the machine.
Net Switch mode
In this mode, the machine distinguishes between fax and voice calls. This mode is available for certain countries only and requires subscription to a network switch service.
Telstra FaxStream. Duet (Only for Australia)
In Australia, Telstra offers the FaxStream. Duet capability. If you subscribe to this service, your line is assigned two numbers: one for fax and one for phone. When the fax number is called, the network sends a specific ringing tone which your machine recognizes and automatically handles as a fax call. If the phone number is called, a different ringing tone is sent out from the network so that the call is handled as a voice call. This means that there is no switching delay at the caller's end. Contact Telstra for connection information.
- Triple ring (short-short-short) for fax receiving.
Three short rings, at regular intervals.
- Any ring except triple ring (depending on your switchboard) for telephone conversation.
Make sure to do the following:
- Subscribe to the FaxStream service.
- Connect the optional handset or your external telephone to the machine. (See Getting Started.)
- Set the receive mode to <Net Switch>.
Telecom FaxAbility (Only for New Zealand)
In New Zealand, Telecom N.Z. offers the FaxAbility capability. This service allows you to assign two numbers to your line: one for fax and one for telephone. When the fax number is called, the network sends a specific ring tone which your machine recognises and automatically handles as a fax call. If the telephone number is called, a different ring tone is sent out from the network so that the call is handled as a voice call. This means that there is no switching delay at the caller's end. Contact Telecom for connection information.
- Subscribe to the FaxAbilty service.
- Connect the optional handset or your external telephone to the machine. (See Getting Started.)
- Set the receive mode to <Net Switch>.
