    Solution

    After achieving focus with One-Shot AF, you can lock the focus on a subject and recompose the shot. This is called "focus lock". This is convenient when you want to focus on a peripheral subject not covered by the Area AF frame.

    In normal autofocus settings, if you want to take a picture by focusing on the nearest flower, the focus is usually on the leaves at the center as shown in the left picture.
    In such cases, use Focus Lock to focus on the target subject as shown in the right picture.

    In the [ ] mode, pressing the shutter button halfway to focus on a still subject will lock the focus on that subject. Recompose the shot while keeping the shutter button pressed halfway, and then press the shutter button completely to take the picture.
    The procedure for shooting with one-shot AF in the Creative Zone modes [ P / Tv / Av / M / B ] is explained in the following sections.

    1. Set the lens focus mode switch to [AF].



    2. Set the camera's power switch to [ON].

    3. Set the Mode Dial to [ P / Tv / Av / M / B].



    4. Press the [DRIVE惻AF] button.



    5. While looking through the viewfinder or at the LCD panel, turn the [ ] dial, and set the AF mode to [ONE SHOT] AF.





    6. Press the shutter button halfway to autofocus.

    • When focus is achieved, the AF point that achieved focus will be displayed, and the focus confirmation light [ ] in the viewfinder will also light up.
    • With evaluative metering, the exposure setting will be set at the same time focus is achieved.
    • While you press the shutter button halfway to focus a still subject, the focus will be locked. You can then recompose the shot and press the shutter button completely to take the picture.

    7. While you hold down the shutter button halfway, the focus will be locked. You can then recompose the shot if desired.



    8. Press the shutter button completely to take the picture.
    NOTE
    • If focus cannot be achieved, the focus confirmation light [ ] in the viewfinder will blink. If this occurs, the picture cannot be taken even if the shutter button is pressed completely. Recompose the shot and try to focus again, or refer to Difficult subjects for AF (Auto Focus) (EOS 5DS / EOS 5DS R).
    • If [ : Beep] is set to [Disable], the beeper will not sound when focus is achieved.
